Good communication between you and the plastic surgeon is essential for planning the surgery. At the first consultation, the plastic surgeon will give you information about the procedure and you will be asked what results you expect from the surgery. It is important to put aside any embarrassment you may feel and talk openly about the results you would like to obtain. The surgeon will also assess your health, perform a physical and pre-operative examination, take photos and explain which surgical techniques are most suitable for you. The type of anesthesia to be used, the location where the surgery will be performed, the possible risks and costs involved in the procedure will be discussed. It is important to have realistic expectations about the surgery. Remember, surgery can offer significant improvement, but not perfection. Don't forget that age and health play an important role in the quality of the result.<\/span><\/p>\n\t<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>

<\/i>LIPOSUCTION AND BODY CONTOURING<\/a><\/h3>

The ideal shape for a male body is athletic, with broad shoulders and chest, toned abdomen and narrow hip and thigh area. However, as men age, areas of fat tend to accumulate around the abdomen, sides (\u201clove handles\u201d), chest area (a condition called gynecomastia), and along the chin and neck. Men often undergo liposuction to remove these areas of fat that are resistant to diet and exercise.<\/span>
\nIn many cases, only liposuction effectively corrects these areas. Men maintain skin elasticity longer than women, and the area of \u200b\u200bfat beneath the skin tends to be firmer and more vascular than that of women. Due to these and other factors, liposuction in men is generally very effective. Men who have sagging skin, as well as areas of excess fat, opt for a traditional excision procedure (surgical removal of the skin) in addition to liposuction. Excision can also be performed in patients with gynecomastia caused mainly by glandular tissue and not fat.<\/span><\/p>\n

Abdominoplasty: Abdominoplasty may be the option for men who have apron-like abdominal skin (usually the result of massive weight loss), sagging abdominal muscles and\/or neglected hernias. Abdominoplasty is a surgical procedure that removes excess fat, compresses the muscles of the abdominal wall and reduces the waist. Men who undergo abdominoplasty are often surprised by the long recovery period. Some patients return to work within four weeks after surgery. Men with good skin elasticity and a moderate amount of excess abdominal fat may benefit from liposuction.<\/span><\/p>\n

In recent years, plastic surgeons have developed ways to improve muscle contour with aesthetic implants. Calf implants, originally developed to restore the contour of the legs of accident and polio victims, are now used to add aesthetic fullness to the leg. Likewise, pectoral implants, used to build the chest of men with Poland syndrome, can also be used to enlarge the pectoral muscles in healthy men.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n\t<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>

<\/i>CHANGES IN FACIAL CHARACTERISTICS<\/a><\/h3>

Cosmetic procedures such as eyelid surgery, nose surgery and facial implants are performed essentially the same way on men and women. However, it is important that your surgeon knows if you are aiming for a more masculine look for your facial features \u2212 chin with better projection, more prominent cheekbones, more striking nose.<\/span><\/p>\n\t<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>

<\/i>FACIAL SURGERY<\/a><\/h3>

If you are planning to undergo facial surgery or neck surgery, your surgeon will evaluate your entire head, neck, and face.<\/span><\/p>\n

In general, it is known that male facial skin has a richer blood supply than female facial skin. Male faces bleed more during surgery and have a higher risk of bruising after surgery. Furthermore, any scar resulting from surgery is more difficult to hide in men, as they do not use makeup or a haircut to camouflage the scar, as many women do.<\/span><\/p>\n

Hair and beard growth play a fundamental role in the result. If you are bald or have hair loss, artistic talent is necessary to hide the incision, especially in the temporal region area. If neck skin containing hair is brought behind the ears during surgery, you will need to shave behind the ears or the back of the neck. However, sometimes laser hair removal can correct this problem. Be sure to discuss these possibilities with your surgeon.<\/span><\/p>\n

The jowl area, below the chin, is also a concern for many men. In younger patients, liposuction alone may be enough to correct the problem. Older patients may require cervical lifting, removing excess skin and repositioning the platysma muscles. These muscles are generally thicker in men than in women, but they do not represent a greater challenge for the plastic surgeon.<\/span><\/p>\n\t<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>

<\/i>SKIN TREATMENTS<\/a><\/h3>

You should not shave for about 3 weeks after\u00a0peeling\u00a0<\/strong>or dermabrasion skin treatment. These procedures remove the top layers of skin, so your face will likely feel tender, swollen and bright pink for several weeks after surgery.<\/span>
\nSome men are happy that growing a beard can help hide the pinkness of their skin. The patient is also asked not to drink alcoholic beverages for approximately four weeks. Alcohol causes treated areas of skin to become visibly red and flushed.<\/span><\/p>\n\t<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>

<\/i>FACIAL HAIR TRANSPLANT<\/a><\/h3>

The first consideration for men wishing to undergo hair transplantation is the time involved, as several surgical procedures are usually required, with long recovery intervals. A treatment can last from eighteen months to two years or more. You should be aware that the incisions or transplant sites may be visible, especially in the early stages of the hair transplant process. If your work and lifestyle are not compatible with a long course of treatment, ask your doctor about alternatives, such as flap surgery or scalp reduction.<\/span><\/p>\n\t<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>

The days and weeks following surgery are essential for obtaining a good surgical result. Therefore, it is essential that you follow your doctor's recommendations.
