SBCP Ivo Pitanguy Museum

As beauty professionals, we Plastic Surgeons are tirelessly seeking to transform science into art, providing techniques and tactics within a universal context.

The executive board, with the creation of the museum in 2016, created a cultural landmark at SBCP.

The SBCP Museum has always been an old dream of several generations. In our management, we want to carry out a true cultural crusade throughout Brazil, aiming to create an environment where a growing number of colleagues can participate with their suggestions and donations to create a larger collection, thus making this valuable heritage public.

We will direct this work towards identifying, cataloging and organizing donations of photos, rare books and other relics. The planted seed germinated, showing that the ground was fertile. A REAL DREAM.

The Brazilian Society of Plastic Surgery Ivo Pitanguy museum is focused on the history and evolution of Plastic Surgery in Brazil and around the world and pays homage to the patron of the SBCP, Dr. Ivo Pitanguy, globally recognized as one of the most renowned of his time. The importance of having a Plastic Surgery museum in Brazil is to be able to bring several impactful and lasting benefits to the specialty.

Here are some points that highlight the heritage of having a museum dedicated to plastic surgery:

Historical preservation: A plastic surgery museum has the fundamental role of preserving the history of the specialty. It can document and display preserved objects, ancient medical instruments, photographs, records and other materials related to the development and evolution of plastic surgery over time. This allows future generations to have access to the historical knowledge of the area and understand the trajectory and achievements of plastic surgeons.

Opportunity to view, learning about the greatest contributions of Brazilian plastic surgeons to global plastic surgery. It is impossible to name them all, however, among so many, after 75 years of our SBCP, we will mention some late teachers: Rebello Neto, Prudente, Perseu, Pitanguy, Ariê, Lyacir, Callia, Paulo de Castro Correia, Estima, Jalma Jurado, Psilakis, Spina, Ricardo Baroudi, Osvaldo de Castro, Millan, Aymar, Cassio Raposo do Amaral, Munir Curi, Ewaldo Bolivar.

These Brazilian plastic surgeons have made numerous contributions to the field of plastic surgery worldwide. For example, in procedures such as abdominoplasty, lipoabdominoplasty, rhinoplasty, breast augmentation, breast reconstruction, facial lifting, among others, demonstrating your skills by developing new approaches and techniques and improving existing classic ones.
